WINTER WONDERLAND

We went to Canada for the weekend with another Royal Oak family. They have two daughters who are the same ages as our boys. The interaction between the kids was fun to watch. Their girls were really great. So nice and polite and talkative! (Our boys are sooooooo shy.)

Gary is a lawyer and former professional photographer. He took a bunch of pictures of Ball's Bridge for us. (I would like to put together a calendar for next year...so he got some winter shots.) It was quite an experience. We got up at 6am and went down to the bridge in total darkness to set up a shot (he artificially lit up the bridge) and he took pictures as the sun rose. I can't wait to see the finished pix.

Upon re-entering the states, we were filled with grief to think that starting in June, everyone (including kids) will be required to have passports. (We even got our passports stamped this time entering Canada--a first!) It bummed us out because the kids have brought so many friends to Canada through the years and now it won't be quite so simple. I doubt anyone that doesn't have a passport is going to run out and get one. So some kids won't be able to come any more. We keep a list and there are over 30 friends that have come up with us for the weekend. We decided to have one last blowout party on Memorial Day weekend.

SANTA BABY

We went to my Aunt Susan's house on Christmas Eve. It's our tradition. I have 24 cousins on my mom's side of the family so it's a big group and the food is always GREAT. We enjoy seeing everyone, especially our cousins who come in from Oklahoma, as it's the only time of the year we see them.

My cousin Jenny has a nine month old baby and he is so cute. I was holding 'lil Lucas and talking to him, and Willie came up to me and whispered, "Mom you are talking to him like he's a dog." Then I realized, it's the other way around! I talk to our dog like he's a baby. Can you blame me? Just look at our little beagle.

We bought the Ozzie a Santa suit too. During the holidays, walking the dogs in downtown Royal Oak, in their little red outfits, and seeing all the smiles they generated was one of our favorite pastimes.

PARTY ANIMALS

While we were out bowling with cousins Rem and Logan, Barney and Ozzie did a little partying of their own--getting into Willie's Christmas stocking. When we got home we found M&M wrappers and chocolate foil EVERYWHERE! Barney was bouncing off the walls on a sugar high, until he threw up and then both dogs collasped. I slept on the couch with them. They both looked miserable. Poor things!

COMPARE PRICES

I ran across this photo that I sent in to be considered for a book cover. Actually, I am pretty flattered that my publisher used a picture of me for the cover, since I am not really famous. I am sort of pretend famous or a "legend in my own mind."
Also I ran across this website that compares book prices (including shipping). It's pretty cool.
None of the stores charge your credit card until it ships.

ROCKSTARMOMMY.INFO GETS FACELIFT

I've been playing around with the look of the RockStarMommy.info.
Check it out. It looks slightly different. It's still a work in progress.

CRAZED PARENT

I just found this review on the CRAZED PARENT blog. Cool!

Good reads: I also just finished reading the galley proof of Rock Star Mommy: My Life as A Rocker Mom by Judy Davids, the lead guitarist of the mom rock group The Mydols. A bunch of moms with no instrument experience whatsoever form a band and kick some serious boo-tay in Detroit. I can't say more about the book because it's not out yet, but I will admit that it got me very fired up about attending Ladies Rock Camp next spring. I'm ready to shred. And no, you can't have the galley proof.

We had a wonderful Christmas. We went to so many parties. It was great to see so many friends over the past week, but I am exhausted! As for Christmas day, we spent the morning with my parents playing Rock Band. It was a little weird to hear my mom sing Nirvana's "In Bloom". Later we spent the day with the Davids. It was fun to see Karl and Jenny. (Jenny took one of my galleys with her to read on the plane.) My best present? It was my father-in-law telling me how much he loves my book! AWWWWWW! (My mother-in-law is reading it too.)

FUN IN THE D

John and I went to a Lions' football game today. One of John's clients gave him these amazing seats on the 40 yard line, 7 rows behind the team. Barry Sanders was there and the Lions won. We got lucky.
Tonight we've been invited to Joel Martin's 54 Sound party in Ferndale. John is hoping to meet Eminem. I am just hoping we don't feel out of place--like dorks.

Charity Gift Wrappers

The whole Davids family wrapped books last night at Barnes and Noble for the Royal Oak High Lacrosse team. We had the honor of having a couple of varsity players hang out with us. (They didn't wrap...as one the the boys said "No one wants to have their gifts wrapped by a kid." They may be right but my boys wrapped anyway.)

It was great how super nice everyone was to us. People that didn't even have us wrap, still gave us their change. And people were so patient while Dylan and Willie took their time gift wrapping . It was great to hear people comment on what nice boys they were.

The whole evening put me in a great holiday mood.

GALLEYS ARRIVE!

I got my galleys in the mail this week. It looks like a real book--more or less--just the cover is different. The real cover is still being modified, so the galleys are bound in red with the title info, pages (208), ISBN number, publishing date etc.

The design is really cute. I used to work for a book compositor in my 20s so I have a real appreciation for the production.

NORTHERN FIGHTS

Check out the Mydols in Minneapolis this April at the Minneapolis Convention Center!

We're the entertainment at the North Star Roller Girls' bout. North Star Roller Girls is a skater owned and operated organization dedicated to providing quality entertainment through competitive athleticism. They partner with local musicians and artists to increase public awareness for the sport of roller derby. They also work to strengthen the communities by empowering women, and donating time, money and resources to charities.

I am hoping to see lots of family members there for the action and to raise money for charity!

MORE BLURBS

I got two more blurbs for my book. One is from Joel Martin who is one of Detroit's greatest music producers and the genius who discovered Eminem. He wrote:

"There's nothing sexier then a Mom who dares to bring out her inner Rock Star... Judy Davids Rocks! "

And Karen Leigh Hopkins who wrote and produced such movies as "Because I Said So" and "Step Mom" wrote this:

"It's pretty rare to read something that is both inspired, original, and true. With a point of view that is hilarious and how about this - a unique voice outta the midwest that transcends even rock and roll. Davids book is hip, but compassionate, and relateable in a way that never pushes. You can't help but fall in love with her spirit, her courage, and her profound motherhood. She's a real woman with a real story to tell and a message that it's never to late to follow your dreams."

I feel honored.

I'M TOO SEXY

I bet the title above caught your attention! Sorry, this blog is not as tantalizing as you might have hoped for.

I just heard from my agent. Another author is writing a blurb for my book. This time it's Betty Londergan who wrote "I'm too Sexy for my Volvo: A Mom's Guide to Staying Fabulous!"

It's really cool to get endorsements from authors, because they should know if my book is good or not. I mean my mom likes it, but then SHE'S MY MOM for heaven's sake.

THIS DOESN'T SUCK

I have been busy the past week going over my proofs for Rock Star Mommy and securing blurbs for the jacket. I sent the manuscript corrections to the production editor in New York this morning. It's kind of scary. I can make no more corrections.

On the blurb front, so many people have been kind enough to supply witty comments including RockinMoms.com, Go Girls, Mamapalooza, and Momz Hot Rock. Now author Joanne Kimes, who wrote Pregnancy Sucks, Breastfeeding Sucks, Bedtime Sucks, Potty Training Sucks and more, has added her insight! She has a great blog called Sucks in the City. Check it out.
