Here's a cute photo my friend Karan sent me. Willie (far right) spent the day with her today, while Dylan began his drawing classes at the College for Creative Studies--a life drawing class. I dropped him off and chatted with the model, an older gent with tight clothing. I was thinking "OMG! This old dude is going to strip down to a Speedo and scare all the kids!" I kind of felt bad for Dylan. When I picked him up he showed me his drawing. A lovely tall slender girl in a leotard! I'm not sure what happened to the man. Anyhoo, Dylan's drawing was awesome! I'm not kidding it looked like it could be in a "How to Draw" book. He told me the teacher walked all the kids through it--step by step. She's a great teacher.

SAVE THE DATE
CONGRATS WILLIE!
Willie found out today he made the ROYSA travel soccer team! He's on the Renegades. Dylan has played premier soccer since the fourth grade but Willie played baseball for a couple of years. He gave that up and got back into soccer about two years ago. Tryouts were while we were on vacation so he had a special tryout this morning--in the rain! We are so proud of him for making the team.
Tomorrow Dylan starts his drawing classes at the College for Creative Studies. He's determined to be a animator/game designer.
Both boys got their report cards--straight A's (4.0 GPAs for both).

BRAIN, CHILD
I officially am still on vacation--we're back at home after travelling through Canada. Wednesday night I went up to Gilda's Club. I have been teaching a Memoir Writing class there since January and all the girls turned in their essays. We are self-publishing a book. I am so proud of my students. They inspire me. I got home at around 8 PM and I was all hyped. I'm usually am exhausted after 9, but I stayed up until around 3 AM responding to emails. I really enjoyed the quiet and darkness.
Today I met with Shelleen McHale and Jill Martens the founders of ChefMama.com. I'll be officially joining the ChefMama team! I am really excited about this opportunity. More coming.
And one of the biggest surprises of the day was I received an email from a writer from one of my FAVORITE magazines Brain, Child. They'll be reviewing my book.

HAPPINESS
I have really enjoyed this vacation. We have travelled all the way around the north shores of Lake Superior where water and moose are abundant and the air is cool. (Motels don't even have air-conditioning!) We saw no less than 5 rainbows and a double rainbow. AND we actually drove through a rainbow--a first! We saw where the rainbow hit the pavement on Highway 17. John and I were amazed. We never saw the end of a rainbow before.
Another first for me, is I had no cell phone service or Internet access for 2 days. Wow. That was hard. Somehow I managed to survive, but it was tough.
I did an interview on Monday with Growing Bolder Radio. As soon as I have a link I will post it.

THE PASSION PROJECT
I have the honor of being on Katherine Reschke's radio show this Friday. It's called the Passion Project. Katherine is a Passion Coach. "What's that?" you ask. She helps folks focus on personal, as well as professional, fulfilment through their business journey. She says:
"It all begins with the foundational belief that a more joyful life begins with living a life of passion. If you don’t absolutely love what you are doing, then you are cheating yourself out of an incredible, fulfilling life. Unfortunately, it’s entirely too easy to be sidetracked by the challenges and detours of daily life. It’s when your passions have receded into the background of your life that a Passion Coach can become your path to a better life."
You can listen to my interview live this Friday at 12:00 EST at:

VACATION HAD TO GET AWAY
It's nice to get away. Dylan had a soccer tournament in Petoskey. The Rampage was 1-2-0 but they played really well. We stayed at Boyne Mountain and we had a great time. We mountain biked down the slopes. It was a blast--though I wiped out! From Petoskey, we went to a resort at Sleeping Bears Dunes. Today we hiked the dunes and floated down the Platte River in a canoe and a kayak. Life is good!

TIGER STADIUM
This photo is from 1999--the last season at Tiger Stadium. That's NPR Whitehouse correspont Don Gonyea in the middle of the back row.
Yesterday afternoon I did a really special interview for American Public Media's "Weekend Edition. I talked about the Tiger Stadium Fan Club's nearly 10 year struggle to save the historic ballpark. It was really emotional for me. It airs this weekend.

COOL NEW PROJECTS
I have been very busy. We are installing a new patio in our back yard (it's almost done) and I have been working on a bunch of side projects for friends. I'm involved in the design for "Face Art and Tattoos" (that's a biz card I did for them), "Momz Rock the House" (web design) and "Chef Mama" (web design).
Keep posted. These projects are all in the works and should be up and running soon!
